This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Monique.
I heard about your client who made $500,000. When I think of myself doing that, I immediately go to the idea of “burnout.” I start questioning, “What would have to be in place for me on the backend to offer something that high level?” How would I possibly deliver that, without getting burned out? I can see myself maybe making $200,000 but not $500,000. I know you mentioned, “Whose voice is that in your head?”
I feel deflated in response to her success story and about what’s available and what’s possible for me. How do I reconcile this? What do I need to tell myself to overcome this type of thinking?
Great question.
The only way you could possibly consider burnout is if you’re approaching success from the idea that “it has to be hard or difficult.” It does not.
In your mind, you’ve made a correlation between making $500,000 and experiencing burnout.
You won’t feel burnt out if it’s easy.
I would consider this question: Why do you automatically assume it has to be burnout? Why does your mind go in that direction?
If you’re basing that on something you’ve experienced before… understand that you’re using a past experience to evaluate this idea of success.
So, let me give you another option.
When it comes to that rates you’re charging, you have to remember where the value is. The value is in NOT in what you’re providing to someone, or how hard you’re working.
The value is in the potential outcome of
the client or person who’s purchasing from you.
A common error business owners make is thinking that delivering an outcome has to be “hard” or difficult. They put way more effort into something than they need to. They place the value on how much they “DO,” rather than on the outcome the client gets, or what problem they actually solve for people.
If your clients understand and agree on the value they get from your product or your service, you can charge whatever you want, within reason of that.
How you deliver that is entirely up to you. It doesn’t have to be difficult.
I’m not a fan of burnout. There’s no reason people need to experience that. If you’re doing what you love and you understand that it can be easy, there should be no reason for you to get burnt out.
Burnout is just an idea that, “I’m doing too much and I can’t handle it either emotionally or psychologically.” There’s no reason for it.
