This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Rosalie.
I just uncovered a pattern that’s ruling my life. I’ll set a goal for myself and start taking bold action. I’ll expect it NOT to work. But then it DOES work, and suddenly I’ll freeze and want to move in a different direction.
For example, my goal is visibility—to be more visible in front of my target market. I sent out messages to several people, inquiring if I could speak on their stage. Whenever I get a “Yes” response back—I completely freeze and draw back. I don’t follow up with them. My next reaction is to move in a new direction and start on a different goal.
Maybe in back of my mind, there’s imposter syndrome. I’m afraid they won’t like me. I start to panic that I won’t deliver and won’t be amazing on their stage. What are your thoughts on this?
Imposter syndrome is a prevalent experience that human beings have, especially when they’re attempting to grow, accomplish a new goal, or advance in a new direction.
Whenever you get a “yes” response from someone, the first thing I want you to do is…
Immediately go to gratitude.
Start reminding yourself to do this. Whenever someone says yes to you, consciously write down on a piece of paper:
“I am so grateful to have the experience of this person saying ‘yes’ to me, and seeing my potential value in the message that I sent out.”
Also tell yourself: “My job is to find out if there’s a connection here for us to do something together.”
And that’s it. That’s all you need to do. That’s the only outcome you’re looking for—is to see if working with that person is the right fit for both of you.
Going into gratitude will give you a process to be able to take it to the next step, which is to respond.
Also—set a goal for yourself, that whenever you get a “yes” response, you’re going to respond to it immediately.
Part of this is learning how to be
non-resistant to the good that’s trying to flow to you.
One of the universal laws is the Reciprocating Law of Non-Resistance, which states that:
“The Universe and everything in it operates in perfect order and flow according to the needs of the whole. Resistance to that order brings confusion and congestion. When we become non-resistant to the change necessary to grow, we experience what is known as divine ease and grace.”
Whenever we’re moving towards a new goal, a big problem people often experience is subconscious deflection. Our subconscious mind doesn’t have a pre-existing pattern to follow for this new experience in our life.
So, it causes us to go into “fight, flight, or freeze.”
We do that, because we don’t have another option to do something different. People often get stuck going in the other direction.
Now you have a different option. Now you can practice gratitude for every “yes” response you hear back. Now you have the option of responding to it immediately.
Do this, and you’ll break through this pattern really quickly.
