This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Marie.
I feel like I’m not getting the results I want fast enough. I’ve been playing around with my copywriting and my messaging—putting myself out there, and sharing what I do with people. But I just can’t seem to nail it, so it’s becoming frustrating. Do you have any advice?
Yes… the reason it’s becoming frustrating is because you’re using the word “fast enough.” That’s a dangerous word to use when you’re building a business, especially when you’re talking about copywriting and marketing.
You can’t speed something up when you don’t know what the problem is.
So, when you find yourself feeling frustrated, you have to take a
step back and look at the process.
I get it—I understand how frustrating it can be. But sometimes we have to just be mature about it and say, “Okay, look, this is a long-term thing that I’m building. It’d be great if I could have it all at once. But there are certain pieces I have to work through until I really understand the language and the methodology that takes place in order to produce the result I want.”
Marketing is one of the biggest places in a business where the need for maturity exists. It exists in marketing, team building, systems, structures, and techniques. There’s all these different places where you have to work out all the bugs, and figure out how everything works, no matter what platform you’re interacting with.
So if I’m marketing, I’m interacting with an unknown audience where I’m trying to get as much information about them as I can, so that I can communicate in a way to get them to take action—that all takes time, patience, maturity, and a tremendous amount of testing
You might get it right on the first test. You might not.
You might not get it right until the 100th test.
Either way, you need to have the patience to go through the process.
There’s nothing I could do to remove your frustration… except tell you to stop focusing on “speeding it up,” and put all your energy and attention on getting the correct result. That’s what you’re looking for.
