This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Laura B.
My question is about the Sacred Seven. Whenever I try to fill out these questions, my mind goes blank. Sometimes there are no thoughts initially, and I have to sit and think about it for a while. For example, today, for the question, “What do you need to forgive from yesterday?”—I wasn’t sure what I needed to forgive from yesterday. So my mind went blank.
For the question, “What do I need to commit to today?” I have a hard time with this one, because it gets mixed up in my brain with the question on vision (“What do I need to visualize today?”) Should I be filling something out related to my current goal? Or my purpose? Or the dreams that I have? How can I overcome the blankness in my mind?
Great question!
What you’re experiencing is resistance from your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind doesn’t what you to know what’s going on internally with you. You’ve never asked yourself these questions in this way before, so it’s creating resistance.
The first way to know that we’re in resistance is:
Our subconscious mind starts confusing things that are actually very simple.
The questions on the Sacred Seven are actually very simple. But it’s very important that you only consider one question at a time. (Don’t try to answer them all at once.)
If there’s nothing to forgive from yesterday, you would write down, “Nothing.” Then go on to the next question.
For the question, “What do I need to commit to today?”—this is a focusing question. It helps you figure out what to focus on for today.
Over the years, I’ve seen clients struggle with this question, because their mind starts expanding beyond the things that they have to do TODAY. People don’t realize how much outside information they’re bringing into just today.
You only have to train yourself to focus on TODAY.
Start training yourself to look at your calendar. It’s like, “Here’s what I have scheduled for today. Here are my responsibilities for today. Here are my calls or most important tasks for the day.”
You don’t want to be thinking about your commitments multiple times per day. You want to train yourself to think about them once, and get them done TODAY.
Going through this process of asking yourself these questions daily, helps you learn about yourself. The Sacred Seven is really about getting to know yourself. You can see whether or not you’re complicating things or bringing in outside information that has nothing to do with today.
It’s not about judgment or making yourself feel bad. It’s not about getting it right or wrong, or getting everything perfect.
Don’t judge yourself. Use non-judgment as you answer these questions. Judging yourself will mess you up really fast.
And remember, you can’t fail this process. It’s about learning and growth—something you can do for the rest of your life.
