This week’s question from my portal “The Neagle Code: Directions for Life” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
I work for myself and am an expert in my line of work. I take lots of action…yet I feel SO resentful because I’m not getting the results I want. I have what I call “hunting fatigue.” Things seem to take forever to materialize. I’m really frustrated.
I saw a blog you did about resentment, and that resonated with me.
How can I get over the resentment?
Great question!
Many people struggle with this, so you’re not alone.
Let me ask you:
What is your resentment really about?
Whenever you have a situation you feel resentful about… it’s waking up a dormant sense of resentment that’s already in you.
It’s not causing the resentment — it’s stirring up a feeling that’s already there.
The key is to figure out what you’re truly resentful about. Those other things in your life are just triggering that feeling within you.
If you want to change this, you have to want to let the resentment go.
In your core, be honest with yourself and ask, “Am I ready to let this go?”
If the answer is yes… then don’t ever say you’re resentful again. Let this be the last time you say that.
Don’t allow the feeling to be in your life at all.
The only emotion you should be feeling is gratitude.
Be grateful for everything that shows up in your life.
I don’t care how bad it is — everything that shows up in your life is moving you towards being more of who you really are.
Gratitude is the only appropriate emotion for whatever shows up.
All of our negative emotions were handed down to us by other people. We “learned” these emotions by observing how other people responded to different problems in life.
Most of us didn’t see people responding to problems with gratitude. We saw them respond with resentment. Or anger. Or entitlement. Or in a sad way.
…So WE learned to respond in those ways, too.
Every problem in your life is there to show you:
- another side of yourself
- a better way to move forward
- something you’re doing wrong, so you can correct it
When you recognize this truth… the appropriate response is to have gratitude for each “problem” that shows up.
Decide: “This is the way I’m going to live from this day forward — with gratitude for everything.”
YOU are the common denominator in all the problems in your life. If you’re exhausted, then you’re putting too much stress onto it.
All of us are going to have to get up, take a shower, eat, and do all kinds of things… every day for the rest of our lives.
We can either resist doing those things, or we can accept them.
If we accept them — and if we’re grateful for the opportunity to be alive in a wonderful world — then we move through the world in a completely different way.
We were given this God-like ability to make choices. We can create our life any way that we want.
Don’t spend another second in resentment. Be grateful for everything, and if you don’t like something, change it.
