This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
Hi David, I’m interested in working with you. But to be honest, I feel like I already know a lot about what you’re teaching. I’ve read tons of books about universal laws, building wealth, and dialing in good habits. I’ve watched countless YouTube videos and listened to all kinds of podcasts about these topics. Intellectually, I understand it all—and I’ve done a lot of this work before.
Admittedly, I still haven’t gotten the results I want though. So maybe I’m missing something. Either way, I’m not sure if I should join yet another coaching program when I feel like I already know this stuff. Can you give me clarity on this?
Great question. I’d be happy to address this.
First off, please understand that “knowing” something requires more than just an intellectual understanding of it.
You can read all the books, take all the courses, and listen to all the podcasts in the world—but if you don’t apply the information you’ve learned, you’re no better off than someone who hasn’t read or listened to those things.
I’m always curious what “doing the work” means in this instance. When someone tells me they’ve already done the work, but they still haven’t gotten the results they want, this tells me there’s something going on subconsciously to block them, or they don’t understand something. Or they’re in resistance to something.
If there’s one thing I’ve seen over and over again, it’s 4 words that will sink any entrepreneur and prevent them from moving forward—those words are:
“I already know that.”
When someone has read a book, attended a seminar, or educated themselves in some way, they have a tendency to think they “know” something because they’ve “heard it before.”
But this is just your subconscious mind at work, keeping you from changing.
Information is only useful when it’s “used.” Intellectual understanding will remain that until it’s put into action.
The real change happens when you integrate what you’ve learned into your behavior and achieved a new result because of it.
Real change happens when you take action on what you know over and over again, and you get a new result.
Knowing = Results
If you’re not getting a new result, then you don’t really “know” what it takes to achieve it. You may have an intellectual understanding of the information, but this is not the same thing as actually doing it or integrating it into your being.
Ever since you were in school, you’ve been programmed to believe that if you could simply repeat back certain information, then you know it.
But how much of high school trigonometry have you held onto? If you haven’t used it regularly, then I’m sorry—but it’s gone. You don’t know it.
The only way to truly know something is to get the results you want in that area.
Hope that gives you some clarity!
David
P.S. If you really want to get new results for yourself, then you have to APPLY the right teachings on a consistent, daily basis in your life. That’s exactly what we do in my program, The Elite Mind (TEM). In it, I teach business owners how to BE the person who will get the results they want. This requires getting “laser focused ” on 1 goal you really desire and taking action on it for a minimum of 90 days, to the exclusion of almost everything else. You will learn how to be accountable to yourself and see exactly where you stop taking the action, so you can course correct.
By the end of the program, you will re-wire your subconscious mind to stop getting in your own way. Many of my clients who go through TEM finally break into 7 figures, or multiple 7 figures in their business—because they go from “intellectually” understanding how to do it, to actually DOING it.
