This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
I feel pretty confident when I’m doing a sales call. But when I have a client who’s finished with their initial program — and I feel like they need to work with me longer — I don’t feel as strong and confident during the renewal call as I should be.
Maybe I feel uncomfortable asking them to renew. What can I say to myself to get my mind in the right place when I’m doing a renewal call? What self-talk should I have around this?
Thanks so much for your question! This is something I see a lot of business owners struggle with, and it’s honestly a bad habit.
In his book, Working with the Law, Raymond Holliwell states: “The mind is a magnet and attracts whatever corresponds to its ruling state. Whatever we image in mind, whatever we expect and think about, will tend to bring into our lives the things and conditions that are in harmony therewith” (Chapter 4).
This means when you’re comparing yourself to others and focusing on what you don’t have, you’re perpetuating your current results —because that’s what your mind is in harmony with.
You’re actually pushing away what you DO want.
This is the law of vibration at work. Whatever you put yourself in harmony with, is what you’ll experience. If you’re envious, bitter, feeling “FOMO,” or feeling there’s something missing in you – THAT is what you’ll continue to experience.
To turn this around, my advice is to keep the focus on yourself and your own desires. It doesn’t matter what other people are doing or not doing with their business.
Your life is your life. Your business is your business.
Here are some questions to help you get clear on what to focus on for yourself:
What does having extraordinary results look like for you?
What life do YOU desire to live?
Are you being, doing, and having the things you really want?
Be really honest in your answers.
You can create extraordinary changes in your life and business simply by being, doing, or having certain things that you truly want, even if they seem small.
For example, if you’ve been thinking about buying a certain watch or piece of furniture, or something else for a long time—go out and buy it today. There’s a reason you have that desire.
Give yourself permission to bring the things you desire into your daily life.
Comparing yourself to others is a distraction. If you keep the focus on YOU and what you truly desire, you can make progress towards your goals much quicker.
My client, Rosanne Austin, got over a big slump in her business by giving herself permission to have what she really wanted (like a Rolex and a Range Rover). She removed what was blocking her from bringing in the money to make those purchases—because she was laser focused on what she wanted and the daily actions that would get her there. Her income had a major boost!
It’s all about your daily actions—and building trust with yourself by following through on your word—are your focus and your habits in alignment with where you want to go?
Focusing too much on your peers, and not enough on yourself, is one of the things getting in your way. I’d recommend you break that habit.
Bring your focus back to what YOU want to achieve.
In my Elite Mind 90-Day Experience program, I teach business owners to get “laser focused” on 1 goal they really desire for 90 days, to the exclusion of almost everything else. By the end of the program, their habits are so dialed in that they find themselves surpassing where they previously were, because they’re no longer getting in their own way. They’re no longer distracted by what others are doing or breaking trust with themselves. TEM90 is where many of my clients finally break into 7 figures, or multiple 7 figures.
Ask yourself… what would it look like to surpass your former self (regardless of what your peers are doing)?
