This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Sherri.
A gentleman who owns a consulting service that I work with says, “Don’t do vision boards, because it tricks your mind into thinking you already have it, and then you don’t work to get it.”
That seems so opposite of what you’ve taught us, as far as visualizing and internalizing what we want. Is there any truth to that, or that person is just thinking incorrectly?
No, that’s completely not true. And I’ll tell you exactly where that idea is coming from.
When a person visualizes something and they don’t get it, either one of two things is happening:
1) They haven’t dealt with whatever is going on inside of them that’s telling them that they can’t have it, or:
2) They’ve created a picture of something they don’t really want. They created a vision board because somebody told them to create it. But if you asked them, how bad do you really want these things? It’s like, “Eh.”
“Eh” doesn’t get you to the goal.
If you put something on a vision board that you seriously want, you’ll get it every time.
If you’re not getting it, then you have to do the internal work to uncover whatever is going on inside of you that’s telling you that you can’t have it.
For example:
- Do you have any underlying beliefs that are getting in the way of the goal or contradicting the goal? (Such as “I want to be rich, but I believe money is the root of all evil”)
- Is there a lack of self-worth on your part, where you don’t believe you’re worth having that goal or item on the vision board?
- Do you have a negative association of that thing in your mind? (e.g., “If I obtain that goal, then something bad will happen”)
These are all potential mindset issues that can block you from manifesting whatever is on your vision board. Once you identify and address any internal blocks, you reach your goal fairly quickly and with relative ease, depending on what the goal is.
