This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Michelle.
You mentioned that I’m transitioning from student to leader. Recently there was a training I wanted to attend on how to shift your energy. It’s a little “woo woo,” but I like the woo woo stuff. However, it has nothing to do with specific actions I need to take right now—such as running ads to find copywriters whom I can coach.
I muscle tested and asked, “Do I want to do this training?” I got a “yes.” Then I asked, “Will this help move me forward?” My body kept saying, “No.” I couldn’t understand why, so finally I just said, “Okay, then I won’t do it.” Was that the right answer? Was this coming from fear or my intuition? I genuinely wanted to do the training, but maybe it would be a distraction, because it’s not directly related to copywriting. Attending it might keep me being a “student” instead of a leader, because I’d be learning and absorbing all this content. Can you shed light on this?
Absolutely! When it comes to being a student vs. a leader… I think you need to be equal parts student and leader.
I think the problem for you is that you’re skewed more towards student than leader right now, and you need to balance that a little bit more.
I’m constantly learning. Literally 30 minutes ago, I bought a training. I’m always going to be a student, but I also know when to step into being a leader and owning what I think and believe.
Our team is constantly sharing resources like, “Hey, did you see this?” “Hey, did you learn about this?” “Hey, here’s this book.” There’s nothing wrong with being a student all the time.
It’s when you’re off balance and you use being a student to hide rather than
being a student for a certain purpose and then being a leader for another purpose.
For you, I would look at how you can combine the “woo woo” with the tasks you need to do. I would combine looking for copywriters AND shifting your energy to reduce resistance to being a copywriter. How can you combine the two? How can you make it your own?
It might not necessarily be that you’re restating something that you learned from someone else; it’s that you’re making it your own and applying it to what you need to be doing for your business.
