What Should I Change First?

This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Maxine.

It felt like you pulled the wool off of my eyes when you said to focus on the phrase, “I want this.” This gave me massive clarity. I looked at all the tolerations and challenges in my life—and every day I’ve been saying, “I want this.”

Now I’m like, “No, I DON’T want this. I want to change it all. I want something different. I’m ready to burn it all down and start over.” It seems like everything in my life, I’ve created from a place of lack or victim thinking. Why have I done this? I know you said don’t get caught up in the “why.” But when you realize everything in your life has been created from a false set of beliefs and from dysfunction—how do you start to change when it seems like EVERYTHING needs to change at once?

First off, I would change the word “dysfunction.” I don’t think it was dysfunctional, so much as you made choices you thought would keep you safe.

Everything we experience in life has a purpose. When we try something and it doesn’t work out, there’s a light shining through that. It gives us information about doing something different. I think our entire life works that way.

The problem is, we’re usually in so much resistance, we’re not seeing these things for what they are. They’re a great benefit to us if we could see them for what they are.

The first step is to say:

“I accept full responsibility. I’m doing this because I want it at some level.”

When you keeping doing this, all of a sudden you start to realize why. You’re like, “Oh, I’m doing all of these things for one very specific reason. It’s all based in lack”—or whatever it is.

The more light you shine on it, the easier it is to let it go, because it’s there for a false reason. But you have to see it to let it go.

Anything we hold onto for an unconscious reason is serving a purpose. As dysfunctional as it may be, our subconscious mind is holding onto it for a reason.

When the falseness of why you’re holding onto something disappears, the only thing left is the truth.

As an entrepreneur, you don’t need to be safe—you need to learn how to think. That’s the solution and antidote to fear.

Tell yourself: “I don’t need to be safe; I need to know how to think.”

As the truth reveals itself, you’ll start to see the illusion that was behind the behaviors. You realize you’ve been doing things that keep you safe. As you keep accepting full responsibility, it will get more and more clear.

As for “tearing everything down”—I would start by changing the ONE thing you’re willing to commit to the most.

Don’t think about what you “should,” “must,” or “need” to change—those are all BS. (We say that stuff all the time and we don’t follow through. If it’s not working, we need to stop saying it.)

It has to be the ONE thing you’re willing to commit to changing, regardless of the circumstances around you. That’s it.

Look at your list of tolerations and decide, “Here’s one thing I’m willing to commit to changing.” That’s where you start.

By resonance or the law of vibration, that’s exactly the thing that you should be working on—because the thing you WANT to commit to changing is the thing you’re most in harmony with.

Remember, everything is perfect just the way it is—including the things you realized you didn’t want. Because they’re all giving you more information about who you really are.
