Letting Go of an Employee Who’s Not a Fit

This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Tim.

I have a question about my business. I have a cook who’s getting older, and he’s been forgetting things. He complains when it’s busy. When it’s not busy, he doesn’t complain. Sometimes, it’s frustrating dealing with him, but I try to calm down.

Part of me wants want to move him out of the business, out of the position. But right now, I’m holding on for a bit longer while I bring in new people, in attempts to find the right person. Because right now we’re in a busy season. What should I do?

You don’t need to find the right person yet, because you’re still holding onto him. If you’re afraid to let him go, it’ll stay an excuse in your mind forever.

If this person is no longer the right fit for the position, then the most integral thing you can do for you AND that person is to let them go.

Once you let them go, you’ll find somebody instantly who’s the right fit—because you made the decision.

You create the need. You have the desire. It has to be there.

The law of polarity says when we have a desire or need for something, it has to be there.

This is true even in during a busy season—no, especially during a busy season, because it creates more urgency. It creates urgency and clarity for what you need. When you let go of an employee who’s not the right fit, you create urgency to find the right employee.

You want to be very clear on the person you want for that position.

You want to create urgency to hire someone who can get things done and get them done correctly.

But until you make that decision, you won’t find the right person.

YOU KNOW YOU SHOULD BE CLOSING MORE SALES…
SO WHY DO TOO MANY OF YOUR CONVERSATIONS STILL END WITH “I NEED TO THINK ABOUT IT”?

You can have a great offer, know you can help the person sitting across from you, and still lose the sale because you can’t see where your own thinking is taking you out of the conversation.

That’s your Sales Blind Spot. It can show up when you hesitate to ask for the sale, back off when you hear an objection, over-explain or try to convince, or miss what the prospect is really telling you.

That’s what we’ll work on at The Elite Mind: Sales Accelerator in Charlotte, November 10–11. Over two focused days, you’ll learn how to lead when the conversation gets uncomfortable, ask the right questions that bring the truth to the surface, handle objections without freezing or over-explaining, and guide a prospect to a clear decision without pushing, chasing, or forcing the sale.

If you’re ready to turn your Sales Blind Spot into your next revenue breakthrough, you don’t want to miss this: Apply here to join us.
