Is Going After My Desire Selfish?

This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Deborah.

When you’re making decisions based on your desire, how do you counter the accusations either from other people, or from within yourself, that you’re being selfish?

Great question.

You ARE being selfish. You just have the wrong definition of “selfish.”

So, let me give you a new definition. The way you’re referring to selfish now is based on how most of us were taught—the idea that we have to sacrifice all parts of ourself for other human beings.

That’s not true.

You should be 100% selfish. It’s your life.
You get to create it however you want it to be.

However, if you truly want to be beneficial to other human beings, the best benefit you can give them is to be the best YOU, so that you’re passing on the ability to truly help them.

If you’re constantly sacrificing yourself and your desires in order to take care of other people or make them happy—then you’re not becoming the best YOU that you can be.

When that happens, an entire civilization starts to go backwards—because every person learns less, becomes less, and sacrifices who they are and what they want to do in order to benefit somebody else.

There’s only one exception to this, and that’s when it comes to children. For all adults, you’re responsible TO people, but you’re not responsible FOR them. With children, you’re responsible both TO them and FOR them.

WHY DO YOU KEEP LOSING SALES YOU SHOULD BE WINNING?

It’s not your product, your price, or your pitch. It’s that you’re talking to the wrong mind, and you can’t even see it.

A sale doesn’t happen in the conscious mind. It happens in the subconscious mind.

When a prospect says they need to think about it, they don’t have the money, or the timing isn’t right, what they’re telling you on the surface isn’t what’s driving their decision.

If you don’t see what’s really happening, you don’t know what to say or do next. That’s the blind spot, and it can cost you the sale.

This month, Steph Tuss joins me for a brand-new 5-part series on The Successful Mind Podcast where we go deep into the different types of sales blind spots and what’s going on in your brain that’s causing you to lose sales you should be closing.

You’ll learn about the four Sales Blind Spot types: the Reluctant Seller, the People-Pleaser, the Convincer, and the Catalyst, and how each one kills the sale.

We also created a free tool that shows you what’s really happening in your sales conversations, where exactly you’re losing the deal, and how to fix it.

If a sale has ever slipped away and you couldn’t explain why, this series is for you.
