This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from someone who wishes to remain anonymous.
Can you explain more on this question of, “Who do you need to BE to create the result you want”? I’m a little confused by the word, “be.” Do you mean we need to change our identity?
Great question.
Whenever you have a goal that you’ve never achieved before, you don’t know what it takes to actually reach the goal—until after you’ve done it.
The reason you set a goal is because you want a different outcome than what you currently have. But in order to reach the goal, you have to change certain things within yourself.
Up until now, the person’s you’ve been “being”
doesn’t have the outcome you want.
So you have to look at—who do you need to BE to create a different outcome?
- What do you need to think each day to reach your goal?
- What words do you need to say to yourself each day to reach your goal?
- What actions do you need to take each day to reach your goal?
- How do you need to “be” in your energy? (e.g., in a positive mood or a negative mood? In victim mindset or resourceful? Blaming or taking responsibility?)
In As a Man Thinketh, James Allen wrote:
“A man is literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts. A person is limited only by the thoughts that he chooses. A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile, and commences to search for the hidden justice which regulates his life.”
In order to reach a goal you’ve never reached before, you’re going to have to think different thoughts, say different words, take different actions, and show up differently every day. You’re going to have to change your habits and who you’re “being.”
Many people walking around feeling victimized by their own life and their own choices. They’re literally being “victims.” They’re putting responsibility for how they feel onto someone or something else.
Whenever you set out to achieve a new goal, you won’t be able to reach it
by being a victim (i.e., having a victim mindset).
You must choose to be a “creator”—someone who creates the outcome they want by intentionally thinking, saying, and doing certain things, and BEING the person who creates the outcome.
What needs to change in you, in order to create the outcome you want?
Ask yourself, “Who do I need to be today?”
This is so important, I’d recommend doing this every morning before you start your day.
