This week’s question from our portal “Ask Us Anything” comes from Christina.
I’m struggling with the concept of being versus doing. You’re saying that we need to focus on being the person who has what we want rather than doing things to get what we want. But practically speaking, don’t I need to do things? Like, I can’t just sit around being wealthy without actually doing anything to make money, right? How do I balance being and doing?
You’re asking the wrong question. It’s not about balancing being and doing. Being determines doing. Who you’re being automatically determines what you do.
Most people try to do their way into being. They think “If I do enough things, I’ll eventually become the person I want to be.” But that’s backwards. That’s why people work so hard and stay stuck.
You have to BE first, then the doing follows naturally. When you’re being the person who already has what you want, the actions you take are completely different than when you’re being the person who’s trying to get what you want.
Think about it. A person who IS wealthy makes different decisions than a person who’s TRYING to be wealthy. A person who IS confident acts differently than a person who’s TRYING to be confident.
The being comes first. The doing is automatic. You don’t have to figure out what to do when you’re being the right person. You just do it naturally.
So stop trying to do your way there. Start being the person who’s already there, and watch how different your actions become.
